Thought International has discovered a way out of the selfishness and greed with which our world is beset. Our prescription: If you really want to be selfish, don’t be.
What do you want to achieve through selfishness? Your own good? Money, fame, power? How do you go about achieving them? If you go about achieving your goals negating or even neglecting those of others, you would have colleagues and ‘friends’ plotting your failure. If your successes must come at a seeming or subtle cost of the successes of those around you, the cost of your own successes would quickly escalate. The more victories you win, the more enemies you make. The people who know you most like you least. This is why, though your selfish acts may sometimes seem to succeed with people you come in contact with only superficially, they would invariably fail with your long term relationships, people who would matter most to you.
On the contrary, what does the truly selfish (aka selfless) person do? He goes about helping others, involving others, appreciating others, listening to others. He knows he cannot be good to others without being best to himself. He derives great satisfaction from the rich relationships he has doubtlessly forged over the years with his family, friends and colleagues. He is therefore assured of good relationships, a stress free life and success in his endeavours through the support of others. As Zig Ziglar says, ‘You can get whatever you want if you help enough people get whatever they want.’
So the lesson is clear. If you are selfish, try to adapt to this new model of selfishness. If you are not, you are already following this model of selfishness. In either case, it would give you astonishing results and in the bargain, make the world a better place.
Be truly selfish then. Go about helping others. Best wishes from Thought International!
